Hallice Cooke, one of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2013 out of the Sports U AAU program and two-time defending New Jersey Tournament of Champions winner St. Anthony, will be contributing periodically to ZAGSBLOG entering his senior season. Here’s his second entry:
What’s up, basketball world?
This past week was a busy week for me. I started off each and every one of my days working out with St. Anthony’s strength and conditioning Coach, Omar Jones. We’ve been working on many different aspects of my game, explosiveness, quickness, footwork, and of course, strength.
Other than being in the weight room, my high school team played in the Hamilton Park Summer League where we went 4-0 this week.
Thursday I had the time to watch the NBA Draft and it was great to see many of those men have their dreams come true. I believe if I maintain my impeccable work ethic, I too will be hearing my name called some day.
I closed out the week playing in the Iona Team Camp with St. Anthony’s. With some key pieces away at HoopGroup Academic Elite we got the job done. Behind the leadership and play of myself and fellow seniors Josh Brown, Kody Jenkins and Kentrell Brooks, we beat some good teams in Cardozo, South Shore and in the chip, St. Patrick.
Winning this is just something to build on though, because State Championships aren’t won in the Summer! Therefore, my team and I will keep working.
Besides that I’m excited for the July live period. My first destination will be the Reebok Breakout Challenge in Philadelphia, where I’m looking forward to competing against the best. I currently have offers from VCU, URI, Oregon State, St. Joe’s, Richmond, Seton Hall, USF, Iona, Rice and San Francisco, with interest from many others. I plan on adding to this list in July.
