  • Lin’s High School Coach: Guard Would Be ‘Very Surprised’ If Knicks Don’t Match; Kidd Involved in Car Accident

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Jeremy Lin’s high school coach remains in constant text contact with the point guard, and he says Lin is stunned by the recent turn of events.

“If in the end the Knicks decide not to match, he will be very surprised by that,” Peter Diepenbrock of Palo Alto High School told SNY.tv.

Asked if Lin, the author of the worldwide phenomenon known as “Linsanity,” was ready to be a Houston Rocket if the Knicks don’t match Houston’s three-year, $25.1-million offer by Tuesday at midnight, Diepenbrock said: “He’s not quite ready to go there yet.”

Meantime, Carmelo Anthony told reporters during Team USA training in Washington, D.C., that Houston’s contract offer — which balloons to $14.9M in year three — was “ridiculous.”

“It’s not up to me,” Anthony said, according to Newsday. “It’s up to the organization to say that they want to match that ridiculous contract.”

The Knicks already have Jason Kidd and now Raymond Felton at the point, plus 35-year-old Argentine Pablo Prigioni.

In another stunning Knicks development, Kidd, 39, was involved in an alcohol-related car accident Saturday in the Hamptons, according to reports.

“At 1:56 a.m Kidd crashed his 2010 Cadillac Escalade into a telephone pole near Cobb Rd. in Southampton, LI,” the Daily News reported. “It was a single vehicle accident, no passengers. Kidd was treated for minor injuries and released from Southampton Hospital, transferred to Southampton police station for processing, arraigned this morning on misdemeanor DWI charge and released.”

Meantime, if the Knicks match the offer for Lin, they would have four point guards, which seems crazy.

“I’d love to see him back,” Anthony said, “but I think he has to do what’s best for him right now.
