NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Markus Kennedy is leaving the Big East, only to return in 2013.

The 6-foot-9 former Villanova big man Tweeted that he’s transferring to SMU, and the move was confirmed by SMU sources.

After sitting out the 2012-13 season while SMU remains in Conference USA, Kennedy, a Philadelphia native, will return to the Big East with SMU beginning in 2013.

That is OK, even though there is a Big East rule against transferring directly from one league school to another.

After a recent visit to the Dallas school, Kennedy told SNY.tv: “The visit was great. Liked the team and the coaches and Dallas is amazing.”

New SMU coach Larry Brown has already landed transfer Crandall Head (Illinois). Onetime Arizona transfer Josiah Turner plans on playing professionally.

Kennedy appeared in 31 games for the Wildcats in 2011-12 and earned three starting assignments. He averaged 3.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 14.8 minutes per contest in his first season at the collegiate level.
