NEW YORK — When James Blake was a young gun on the men’s tennis tour, he used to poke fun at the older guys like Todd Martin.
“I made fun of him for taking so long to warm up, for his gray hair, for all that kind of stuff, for just in general being old,” Blake, born in Yonkers, N.Y., recalled.
“He said, ‘Just wait, just wait. You will be, too.”
Now that he’s 32, and the seventh-oldest man in the U.S. Open draw, Martin’s prediction has come to fruition.
