Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News broke the news on Monday evening that former UCLA star and 13-year NBA veteran Darrick Martin will take the spot on Lavin’s staff.
Terrence Samuel, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Brooklyn South Shore, verbally committed to UConn Sunday.
“It’s a great academic and basketball program,” Samuel told SNY.tv.
Samuel joins 6-foot-9 Long Island Lutheran forward Kentan Facey in UConn’s 2013 recruiting class.
Samuel and Facey follow former Christ the King shooting guard Omar Calhoun in terms of New York prospects committing to the Huskies in the last two years.
The NCAA investigated UCLA freshmen Kyle Anderson and Tony Parker in early August, a source with direct knowledge of the investigation told SNY.tv.
Anderson and Parker were both cleared to go on UCLA’s trip to China later in August, and the source believes the investigation into those two has been completed.
Fueled by former St. Anthony star Anderson and the rest of the Bruins, UCLA went 3-0 during its China trip.
