  • Wagner won big on Election Night.

Coach Bashir Mason’s club secured a verbal pledge from Greg Senat, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward from Thompson (Conn.) Marianapolis Prep.

The Elmont, N.Y., native also considered Drexel, St. Bonaventure, Manhattan, Rider and Binghamton.

“I chose Wagner because they are a program on the rise,” Senat told SNY.tv. “They’re doing special things over there.

On the brink of a new basketball season, top-ranked Indiana has lost freshmen Hanner Mosquera-Perea (pictured) and Peter Jurkin for nine game each for accepting impermissible benefits, the NCAA and Indiana announced Tuesday.

“While in high school, Jurkin and Perea accepted approximately $6,000 and $8,000, respectively, in impermissible benefits from an Indiana University booster,” the NCAA announced in a statement. “These benefits included plane tickets, meals, housing, a laptop, cell phone and clothing. Jurkin will be required to repay $250 to a charity of his choice. Perea must repay approximately $1,590 to charity. In determining the amount of repayment, the staff considered the mitigation presented by the university.”

Indiana announced that each player will be “withheld from the first nine games of this basketball season.”

St. Benedict’s Prep power forward Denzell Taylor is headed to Old Dominion.

The 6-foot-7, 215-foot power forward picked ODU on Tuesday over Long Island University. St. Bonaventure, Siena and St. Joe’s were previously involved.

“I definitely liked the team [and] the team chemistry,” Taylor told SNY.tv by phone. “They made me feel like a family when I was down there last weekend [on a visit].”

“He chose Old Dominion because he felt comfortable,” CIA Bounce coach Tony McIntyre told SNY.tv. “There’s a need for him and he brings a proven, tough solid forward with the ability to rebound and defensively help the squad.

“He is the glue that makes teams win and is a proven winner.”

NEW YORK — Kamall Richards is heading to the Atlantic 10.

The 6-foot-6 small forward from South Kent (Conn.) verbally pledged to Xavier at the SNY studios on Tuesday, selecting the Musketeers over St. Joe’s, Seton Hall, Providence and Penn State.

“I’ll be going to Cincinnati to play for Xavier,” Richards said. “I decided on Xavier because it’s the best fit for me. I’ll be able to come in right away, be an impact player and that’s what I need as a freshman to be able to make mistakes and not be penalized and play through my mistakes and get better. So the sophomore year I can really be a main guy for the team.”

Richards visited Xavier two weeks ago and enjoyed it.

NEW YORK — Some of the biggest names in the history of men’s tennis are seriously concerned about the long-term health of Rafael Nadal.

Nadal hasn’t played since Wimbledon because of recurring knee problems and is not competing this week in the ATP World Tour Finals in London. His uncle, Toni, has said Nadal will return for an exhibition Dec. 28 in Abu Dhabi.

“I think be concerned,” 14-time Grand Slam singles champion Pete Sampras said at the NASDAQ Indexes Cup at Madison Square Garden.

Marquette sophomore guard Todd Mayo has been declared academically ineligible.

Coach Buzz Williams announced Monday that Mayo is unable to practice or play indefinitely.

“Todd understands success in our program requires a sincere commitment to excellence on and off the floor. I’m extremely disappointed he’s put himself in this position, but he has the full support of our program as he works to improve,” said Williams.
