    Even though it is a full voting member of the Big East, Temple cannot stop the Catholic dissolution of the conference, a source with direct knowledge told SNY.tv.

    “They could not stop it,” the source said. “There’s language within the bylaws or the contracts that basically they or the football group could not stop that from happening. There’s some kind of clause pertaining to the dissolution of the league where it doesn’t apply. There’s a loophole there somewhere.”

    We previously been reported that the seven Catholic schools — DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Villanova — had the necessary two-thirds vote to dissolve the conference over the three remaining all-sports schools — Cincinnati, UConn and South Florida.

    Jabari Parker, the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2013, will announce his college decision at 3 p.m. on Dec. 20 at Chicago Simeon High School, and his father says he’s likely headed to Duke or Michigan State.

    “He hasn’t told me where,” Sonny Parker told USA Today. “I didn’t ask him. It’s kind of hard to say. He’s like(d) all the schools we’ve visited. He’s hard to read sometimes. He keeps things to himself, so I don’t put any pressure on him. I think it will probably be…between Duke and Michigan State. That’s what I’m thinking.”

    The 6-foot-8 Parker is also considering Florida, BYU and Stanford. He was moved to the No. 2 player in the Class of 2013 after Andrew Wiggins reclassified from 2014.

    “He mentioned that he wanted to do it that day [Dec. 20],” Sonny confirmed to SNY.tv by phone after the news was first reported by Joe Henrickson of City/Suburban Hoop Report. “They play Monday, Wednesday and Friday so Thursday is a good day for him to make his announcement.”

    VILLANOVA, Pa. — Jay Wright’s team got the big win it so desperately needed on Tuesday night when Villanova beat St. Joseph’s in the annual “Holy War,” 65-61, at the Pavilion.

    The Wildcats scored the last nine points of the game in front of a roaring home crowd, beating the Hawks to improve their record to 6-4 but more importantly giving a young team a big emotional boost. James Bell and JayVaughn Pinkston scored 12 points apiece for the Wildcats.

    BROOKLYN — For the better part of his first year and change with the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony was known by many as an iso-loving, ball-stopping, dream-killer.

    But that was the Old Melo.

    The man who had amassed a season-high 45 points yet still opted to pass the basketball to J.R. Smith with the game against the rival Nets tied in the final seconds was not that same Old Melo.

    Smith dished to Raymond Felton, who eventually found a wide-open Jason Kidd, who drained what became the game-winning 3-pointer from 26 feet against his former team in a dramatic come-from-behind 100-97 victory at Barclays Center.

    “He’s playing at a high level on both ends,” Kidd, who missed the free throw after getting fouled on the 3-pointer, said of Anthony in the corner of the Knicks’ celebratory locker room. “I think he doesn’t get the credit that he deserves when he makes the right plays, and he’s been doing that all season for us. Again, 45 points, he had every right to hold the ball and take the last shot.”

    North Carolina coach Roy Williams will watch Andrew Wiggins on Wednesday when Huntington (W.V.) Prep plays University of Charleston JV.

    The 6-foot-8 Wiggins is the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2013 and plans on taking official visits in the spring to Kentucky, North Carolina and Kansas following his official to Florida State last week. His fifth official visit has not been determined, but Syracuse and Ohio State remain in the mix.

    “Andrew’s been pretty open all along that he’s wide open,” Huntington coach Rob Fulford told SNY.tv Tuesday. “He’s going to take all of his visits. Right now he knows that four of them are taken — Kansas, Kentucky, Florida State and North Carolina.

    Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon and UConn assistant Glen Miller were the latest high-profile coach to watch Brooklyn Bishop Loughlin combo guard Khadeen Carrington on Monday.

    The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Carrington holds offers from Pittsburgh, UConn, West Virginia, Cincinnati, St. John’s, SMU, Villanova, Iowa State, Rutgers and Seton Hall, among others, his mother, Lima DuFont, told SNY.tv Tuesday.

    Asked if any schools were working particularly hard or had developed strong relationships with the family, DuFont said, “Cincinnati, UConn, St. John’s and West Virginia.”
