Rutgers’ divorce from the Big East doesn’t look like it’s going to be a pretty one.

Rutgers has filed a lawsuit in attempt to get out of the $10 million buyout and 27-month waiting period the Big East mandates for schools leaving the conference so they can join the Big Ten by 2014. The news was first reported by Courthouse News Service.

According to Courthouse News, “Rutgers claims the Big East upped the fee to $10 million at its Presidents’ Meeting on Nov. 12-13 this year.”

“Upon information and belief, the new withdrawal fee of $10 million arbitrarily applies to some, but not all, of the Big East football schools, and the effect is to penalize certain members if they seek to withdraw,” the complaint states.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Dallas Kimball is the No. 5 shooting according to Rivals.

“He can’t sign until April,” Erven “Big E” Davis, Frazier’s mentor told SNY.tv. “He’s in no rush [to make a] decision on what might happen. Five schools are sticking out right now — SMU, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M and Arizona.

Rhode Island will visit Providence Thursday night in a battle of two up-and-coming teams with depleted rosters.

    How depleted are they?

So depleted that the most interesting game between the two teams might be a hypothetical three-on-three contest between each team’s best unavailable players.

Consider that Rhode Island (2-6) has transfers Gilvydas Biruta (Rutgers), Jarelle Reischel (Rice) and DeShon “Biggie” Minnis (Texas Tech) sitting out this year per transfer rules.

NEW YORK —  Jon Severe and his Christ the King Royals took the floor for their first game of the 2012-13 season on Tuesday afternoon at Cardinal Hayes in what was a shootout from start to finish.

Christ the King trailed until 5 seconds left before pulling out a 71-70 victory behind Severe’s game-high 33 points.

Severe started his onslaught with eight straight points to keep his team close early on. Severe continued to single-handedly punish Cardinal Hayes by nailing contested 3’s and stopping on a dime for pull-up jump shots in traffic. He had 18 at the break but the Royals still trailed, 33-30.

NEW YORK — DeAndre Daniels came into UConn with a lot of hype.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Los Angeles chose the Huskies in June 2011 over Texas, Kansas, Florida and Duke — and big things were expected of him.

But so far Daniels has not lived up to the hype.

With 24 NBA scouts on hand, Daniels went 2-for-6 for seven points, one rebound and four turnovers as UConn lost to No. 25 N.C. State, 69-65, in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.

“DeAndre’s gotta play better,” Huskies coach Kevin Ollie said. “Everybody knows that and he knows that, first and foremost. “I believe that he has the talent and the ability to go out and create more. Go out on that low post and not settle for the 3.”

NEW YORK — Unlike Texas, Georgetown doesn’t have two players sitting out.

But the No. 15 Hoyas — who destroyed Texas in the Jimmy V Classic, 64- 41, at Madison Square Garden — still appear to have a big upside going forward.

“We are a work in progress,” Georgetown coach John Thompson III said after his team improved to 6-1. “I think that we are going to be much better than we are today.”

Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd are not 100 percent healthy, but both are anxious to play on the Knicks’ upcoming three-game road trip.

Felton, the team’s starting point guard, banged his left hand on Sebastian Telfair’s knee during Sunday’s win over the Phoenix Suns. An MRI revealed a contusion and a bone bruise. Kidd, the starting shooting guard, has missed four games with back spasms and is listed as probable for Wednesday’s game in Charlotte.

“I’m alright, sore but I’ll be alright,” Felton told reporters after practice Tuesday. “I’m playing. It’s going to be tough, but I’m going to play.”
