Christ the King guard Jon Severe has pushed his college announcement to May 22, one week after the late signing period ends, he told SNY.tv by text.
The late signing period runs April 17-May 15.
The 6-foot-2 Severe was going to cut his list this past weekend but never did.
He was considering several A-10 schools, including Fordham, Duquesne, George Washington and St. Bonaventure, along with Pitt, Rutgers and West Virginia.
Most recently Creighton and Kansas State have become involved, with Creighton assistant Steve Lutz coming to watch Severe work out on Monday, one day after the Bluejays were ousted from the NCAA Tournament by Duke.
Bobby Hurley has accepted a five-year deal to be the new head coach at the University of Buffalo
Hurley joins Buffalo from the University of Rhode Island where he has been serving as associate head coach under his brother, Dan Hurley.
UB Director of Athletics Danny White made the announcement on Tuesday at a 5:00 pm press conference at Alumni Arena.
“After reviewing a large and highly qualified national pool and following my conversations with some of the most respected figures in college athletics, Coach Hurley was clearly the choice to lead the next era of UB basketball,” White said. ” As we continue to foster our role as the flagship athletic department for the state of New York, the appointment of Coach Hurley sends a clear statement that the University at Buffalo is committed to bringing big time college athletics to the Western New York community and the state at large.
“Coach Hurley adds an exciting dynamic to our athletic program,” White added. “He is one of the most accomplished players in college basketball history with a legacy that includes three Final Four appearances and winning two national championships. I’m confident, after our discussions, that he is the right leader to take our program to the next level. We couldn’t be more proud to welcome Bobby, Leslie and their family to the Western New York community.”

After a 28-1 regular season that has them sitting at No. 5 in the latest ESPN 25 Power Rankings, Syracuse-bound Tyler Ennis, Pittsburgh pledge Mike Young and St. Benedict’s Prep will go in search of their first National High School Invitational Tournament title beginning April 4 and will do so as the No. 4 seed as matchups and seeds for the eight-team event were revealed on Tuesday morning.
The Gray Bees, who own a win over St. Anthony and whose lone loss was to Blair Academy, will open play at NHSI on April 4 at 2 p.m. against No. 5 seed La Lumiere (Ind.) as part of a quarterfinal quadruple-header at Georgetown Prep in Bethesda, Md.
The rest of the quarterfinal schedule will have No. 3 seed Prime Prep (Texas) take on sixth-seeded and Florida 7A state champion Blanche Ely at noon, No. 2 seed Montverde Academy (Fla.) take on seventh-seeded Oak Hill Academy (Va.) at 4 p.m. and top-seeded, unbeaten Findlay Prep (Nev.) will face No. 8 seed Montrose Christian (Md.) at 6 p.m.
A semifinal doubleheader will take place on April 5 at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., while the final is set for April 6 at 1 p.m.
It has been a hectic week for Jaren Sina ever since Northwestern coach Bill Carmody was fired and Sina re-opened his commitment.
Sina’s phone has been blowing up with coaches from all across the country trying to reach out.
But at this point, the 6-foot-1 senior from Gladstone (N.J.) Gill St. Bernard’s said he’s focusing on three schools — Alabama, Northwestern and Seton Hall — and is in no rush to make a decision.
“Pretty much right now I am focusing on these three,” Sina told SNY.tv Monday night.

PHILADELPHIA – While his players looked shell-shocked sitting on a dais in the bowels of the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday evening, San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher was the picture of calm following the Aztecs’ 81-71 loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday evening.
It’s important to understand that after 22 years of head coaching experience Fisher isn’t surprised by anything anymore, not even a running, jumping, alley-ooping 15th-seeded Eagles team that has become something more than just your average NCAA Tournament darling.
Florida Gulf Coast may not be your average darling, but the Eagles are most certainly the latest college basketball phenomenon, a topic Fisher could probably write a dissertation on after being on both sides of them in his time.
His exploits coaching the Fab Five in the early 1990’s and now getting beaten by Florida Gulf Coast are well-known, but a generation ago, the 68-year-old coach was part of another phenomenon.
