Greg Herenda will be introduced at 10:30 a.m. today as the new head coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

SNY.tv reported earlier this week that Walter McCarty was no longer in the mix for the job and that it was Herenda’s to take.

A North Bergen, N.J., native, Herenda was the coach at Division 2 UMass-Lowell, which is making the jump to D-1.

Herenda was an assistant to Seton Hall coach George Blaney from 1994-7, and helped bring Shaheen Holloway to the Pirates.

Herenda owns a career record of 107-70 record in six years as a head coach (.605), including a 95-54 clip at UMass Lowell (.638).

“Greg provided the program with a needed boost when he arrived on campus five years ago, and the team has competed at a high level throughout his tenure,” said UMass-Lowell AD Dana Skinner. “This was a chance for him to return to his roots in New Jersey. I thank him for his many contributions to the University and wish him well.”

FDU fired Greg Vetrone on March 5 after he went 26-95 in four seasons, including a 7-24 mark last season, 2-16 in the Northeast Conference.
