The addition of former Baylor commit Dominic Woodson to Memphis’ 2013 recruiting class bolsters an already strong group for coach Josh Pastner.
Memphis now has five of the Top 100 players in the ESPN.com rankings for the Class of 2013 as it heads into the new American Athletic Conference (see list below).
Memphis adds No. 15 Austin Nichols, No. 33 Kuran Iverson, No. 37 Nick King, No 90 Woodson, No. 95 Rashawn “Pookie” Powell, as well as shooting guard Markel Crawford and 6-8 George Washington transfer David Pellom.
As Memphis transitions to a new league that features reigning NCAA champion Louisville as well as UConn, these players should help offset the losses of D.J. Stephens (graduation) Adonis Thomas (NBA Draft), Tarik Black (Kansas) and Antonio Barton (Tennessee).
Memphis lost in the Round of 32 loss to Michigan State in last year’s NCAA Tournament, but is hoping to get back next season.
Speaking of the 6-10 Woodson’s decision, his AAU coach, Kevin Robinson, told SNY.tv: “He has the opportunity to play right away and earn minutes, and he has a chance to go tot he [NCAA] Tournament and go far.”
