FORT WAYNE, IN —Though plenty of bigger names took the court over the weekend at the Spiece Bill Hensley Memorial Run N’ Slam, no player meant more to his team than Chris Chiozza.

The 5-foot-10 point guard’s stock has skyrocketed during a strong spring, catching eyes with Team Thad at the UnderArmour Pitt Jam Fest and the Gulf Coast Hoopfest the past two weekends. Though Chiozza’s talent is by no means a secret, with offers including Florida and Ohio State, his consistent dominance on the court was no less impressive.

“I think the past two weekends were better,” Chiozza said. “Still, I think I played pretty well. I helped my team get to the championship, so I can’t be mad about that.”

PHILADELPHIA — Just about six weeks after adding one southern school to the mix, it appears that the Atlantic 10 is ready to add another. According to Sports Illustrated senior writer Pete Thamel, Davidson College is expected to announce a move to the A-10 on Wednesday.

Davidson’s had plenty of success under head coach Bob McKillop, who will be entering his 25th year at the school this fall. McKillop’s 452 wins are the most all-time at the school, and he’s taken the Wildcats to five NCAA tournaments in the last eight years, including an Elite 8 appearance in 2008.

“I think it’s a home run,” one Atlantic 10 coach told SNY.tv of the move. “They’re consistently successful, they’ve had success against high-level opponents, they have a coach that brings tremendous stability to the program.

“They’ve been good for a long time and they’re going to keep being good and that’s exactly what you want in a conference member.”

The Andrew Wiggins Sweepstakes may finally be drawing to a close.

Lesley Thomas, whose family has hosted Wiggins in West Virginia for two years, told the Courier-Journal that Wiggins is planing to announce “sometime in the next week or so.”

Marita Payne-Wiggins, Andrew’s mother, “is planning to come to West Virginia from Canada to support his announcement,” the story said.

“I know for him,” Thomas said, “he’s just ready to get the decision over with.”
