    Rutgers, Georgetown and UConn are among those now involved with Wilfredo Rodriguez, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound 2013 small forward from Orlando (FL) East River High.

    FORT WAYNE, IN — On a team as loaded as the Spiece Indy Heat, it can be easy to forget about Trevon Bluiett.

    Amongst well-known teammates Trey Lyles, JaQuan Lyle and James Blackmon, the 6-foot-5 rising senior’s workmanlike game can get lost in the shuffle. Though he’s not the flashiest of the bunch, the deadeye shooter can score the ball as well as any of them. That fact was made clear at this weekend’s Bill Hensley Memorial Run N’ Slam.

    “Trevon’s shooting the lights out,” said Lyles, and it was very hard to argue with him. But Bluiett, ever-humble, focused on the accolades of his team, even after a tough 83-80 loss to All-Ohio Red in the championship.

    Taking the place of a high school superstar like Shabazz Muhammad is never easy.

    But if anyone can do it, Stephen Zimmerman is a fantastic candidate.

    Zimmerman, a 7-foot, 220-pound sophomore center from Las Vegas Bishop Gorman High School has helped the Gaels to back-to-back state championship titles, and not only wants continue the winning in his last two years at Bishop Gorman, but also in college.

    “I think I’d feel comfortable with a school that has a history of using their big men successfully,” he told SNY.tv. “I want a team that isn’t just individuals playing together, with a coach who is firm and holds the team to a high standard.”

    GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Carmelo Anthony and his teammates know they are facing a must-win in Game 2 Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden or they could go back to Indiana down 0-2.

    “We don’t want to do that, we don’t want to do that,” Anthony said Monday at practice. “We want to take care of business here on our court. We feel like we gave them a game yesterday, which we did. And we’ll redeem ourself tomorrow.”

    Anthony said his injured left shoulder was “fine” and downplayed attention to his declining shot production.

    FORT WAYNE, IN — Leron Black caught some tough breaks over the weekend.

    Team Thad’s 6-foot-7 power forward and the top-ranked player in Tennessee came into the Bill Hensley Memorial Run N’ Slam still regaining his wind after a long layoff. He sprained his ankle in April, causing him to miss the first couple weeks of AAU play. Entering the weekend, he knew his minutes would be carefully monitored.

    What’s more, Black tweaked his ankle again on Saturday. As a precaution, he sat out Sunday’s quarter and semifinals, icing and resting his body as Team Thad rolled to the title game on the back of star point guard Chris Chiozza.

    GREENBURGH, N.Y. –– A winded and rusty Amar’e Stoudemire scrimmaged three-on-three Monday at the Knicks’ practice facility and is targeting a return on Saturday in Game 3 against the Pacers.

    He won’t play in Game 2 Tuesday. The Knicks trail the series 1-0 after Sunday’s 102-95 loss.

    “The only way I wouldn’t be [available for Game 3] is if I don’t recover well from today and if I don’t recover well from the following practice [Wednesday],” Stoudemire said. “If there  is any setback from that, then that’ll be difficult to deal with. But hopefully everything goes well.”

    FORT WAYNE, IN — Many big names took the court this weekend at the Bill Hensley Memorial Run N Slam — and perhaps none bigger than Trey Lyles.

    The highly-touted 6-foot-10 rising senior from Indianapolis joined his Spiece Indy Heat team for the first time this spring and didn’t disappoint. Flashing his versatile offensive game, Lyles and talented teammates including Jaquan Lyle, Trevon Bluiett and Indiana commit James Blackmon went 6-1 on the weekend.

    A dramatic semifinal comeback attempt against All-Ohio Red fell short, 83-80,but Lyles was optimistic nonetheless. Spiece will test their mettle at the EYBL Dallas session next weekend, and their schedule includes a rematch with All-Ohio.

    “We’re playing well as a team,” Lyles told SNY.tv. “This is the first time we’ve all been here. I just came off an injury, I’ve been playing well and we’re just trying to get ready for Dallas.”
