Two transfers — Ryan Harrow (Georgia State) and Malik Smith (Minnesota) — received waivers Wednesday to play immediately next season, and DeAndre Kane received his graduate degree and will be eligible at Iowa State as well.
Harrow, who started 24 games for Kentucky this last season, transferred home to Atlanta for family reasons.
Harrow averaged 9.9 points and 2.8 assists as a redshirt-sophomore last year for the Wildcats.
“I am really excited for Ryan and his family,” Georgia State coach Ron Hunter said. “There is no doubt this will be a huge boost for our team as Ryan is an extremely talented player. He has been working hard not knowing if he would be eligible or not and I have no doubt will work even harder now knowing that he will get to play this season.”
As for Smith, the 6-2 guard left FIU for Minnesota to follow coach Richard Pitino.
He started 31 of 32 games for the Golden Panthers and was named Third Team All-Sun Belt Conference after averaging 14.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. His 451 points scored last season are the eighth-most in the history of Florida International basketball.
“We are certainly excited that the NCAA has approved the waiver for Malik,” Pitino said. “He is a great addition to the roster given his skills and his invaluable knowledge of how we run our program.”
Kane, 6-4 guard who averaged 15.1 points and 7.0 assists, received his graduate degree from Marshall and can play immediately at Iowa State, according to ESPN.com.
