Robert Johnson of Chesterfield (Va.) Benedictine is one of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2014 and will be contributing to ZAGSBLOG periodically entering his senior season.

In his first entry, he cuts his list to 7 schools. He will also take an official visit to Indiana Aug. 24.

    What’s up, basketball world?

My name is Rob Johnson. I’m a regular kid with a gift from Richmond, VA, and this is my blog.

This summer has been crazy for me. I can’t thank God enough. I’ve been all across the U.S., received endless amounts of gear and managed to pull in some very good college options.

One thing that I think helped me accomplish all of this was playing in the EYBL. Coach Boo Williams basically told me coming into the circuit season, ‘You either witness somebody’s else’s name or take their name. Kill or be killed.’

Coming into my last AAU season ever I was unranked by every site, didn’t even have a high major offer on the table. I remember Dave Telep called me a mid-level prospect. All of this just motivated me to get in the gym and work.

When the time came I went out and played hard and with confidence. I continued to get better and it did some good things for me. And now that I’m in a position to do something nobody from Richmond has ever done, it will only make me work harder.

Now let’s talk recruiting… Funny thing about recruiting is when you get those first couple offers you just want them to keep coming in BUT the more they come in the more calls, texts, and Facebook requests you get and it quickly becomes a bit much.

You wish you could play for all the coaches that showed you love but you only can pick one. Eventually you have to cut the list down… which I will be doing right now.

My final 7 are (in no specific order) : Pittsburgh, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana,  Florida State, Miami and Georgetown. Special thanks to my parents and family for all the support.

    Until next time, one love.
