Duke’s Rodney Hood is healthy, which could spell bad news for the rest of the ACC.
The 6-foot-8 Hood had to pull out of USA Basketball tryouts in June due to an Achilles’ injury, but the Mississippi State transfer is now back on the court.
“Rodney is healthy and has participated in summer workouts,” Duke associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski told SNY.tv, confirming earlier comments he made to ESPN’s Andy Katz.
While incoming freshman Jabari Parker may get the most notoriety on this Duke team, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski told folks last year that Hood was the best player on the team.
Hood hasn’t played an organized basketball game since the end of the 2011-12 season, and now he’s chomping at the bit to play again.
“Man, I’m very excited,” Hood told SNY.tv in June from Colorado Springs, Colo., where he was training with the USA World University Games team.
“As a competitor I wanted to play last year, but I didn’t get that opportunity and all I could do was try to make the best of it this year. I can’t wait and I know my teammates and the coaching staff can’t wait till I get out there. And I’m hungry.”
