Tyler Ulis is close to making a college decision.

Following weekend visits to Michigan State and Kentucky, Ulis’ father said his son may soon pull the trigger.

“Tyler and I had a good conversation last night on the drive home,” James Ulis told the Herald-Leader. “We’re going to talk again later today or early tomorrow. I know it’s coming. … I think he’s ready for it to be over.”

Kentucky shifted into overdrive on the 5-foot-9 Ulis out of Chicago Marian Heights after losing Emmanuel Mudiay to SMU and amidst concerns that Tyus Jones could land elsewhere. (Kentucky coach John Calipari was slated to have an in-home visit with Jones on Tuesday.)

“We talked about Kentucky being a place where the expectations are high,” James Ulis said. “You’re expected to win and you’ve got a fan base like no other.”

Ulis is also considering both Iowa and Michigan State and James Ulis said it would be tough to decide.
“We’ve known [Iowa coach] Fran [McCaffery] for a long time, and I call him my friend,” he said. “He’s a great guy and Tyler has really gotten to know him. You can’t just throw that out the window. And the same with [Michigan State coach Tom] Izzo.

“But ultimately, it’s going to be about what’s best for Tyler. This is a decision he gets to make, and it’s a big decision for him. … And the three schools that are left? You can’t argue with it — those are all great schools.”

Ulis visited Kentucky along with Jahlil Okafor and Devin Booker. Booker and Ulis have talked about a potential package together, possibly at Michigan State or Kentucky.
