  • Namon Wright, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Los Angeles Pacific Hills School, committed to Missouri on Saturday.

    “Mizzou!!!!!!!” he Tweeted.

“It’s a family environment,” he told SNY.tv by text. “I feel I can become a better person and player coming here. The academic support for student-athletes is amazing. Everything seems to be perfect.”

An athlete with good ball skills who can shoot it, Wright also visited UTEP but cancelled his other visits.

“I will bring fun energy and hard work to the team,” he said.

Ben Bentil will announce his college choice on Monday.

“Making my decision on monday y’all,” he Tweeted.

The 6-foot-8 Bentil out of Middletown (DE) St. Andrew’s is considering Providence, St. Joe’s, Temple, Miami and UCLA.

He has visited Temple, St. Joe’s and Providence with home visits with Miami and UCLA.

If Providence lands him, it would be a nice catch after they missed out on forward Abdul Malik Abu, who picked N.C. State over Providence, UConn and Florida.

Miami would appear to be a long shot at this point after they landed two bigs, Omar Sherman and Ivan Uceda, in the past couple days.

Bentil is a powerful four man who can transition into a three.

photo-22Raven Owen Jr., a 5-foot-11, 160-pound 2014 point guard at St. Joe’s-Metuchen, verbally pledge to Canisius on Saturday, he told SNY.tv.

He also considered LIU, Boston University, Fairfield, Towson, George Washington, Western Kentucky and St. Bonaventure, but picked Canisius after an official visit Thursday and Friday.

Owen Jr. is the third member of head coach Dave Turco’s team to commit to a D-1 school, following big man Karl Towns Jr. (Kentucky) and shooting guard Wade Baldwin (Vanderbilt).

Harcum College (Pa.) junior college forward/center Ivan Uceda has committed to Miami (Fl.), sources told SNY.tv.

Uceda is the Hurricanes’ fourth commitment for the Class of 2014, joining combo guard Ja’Quan Newton (Neumann-Goretti, Pa.) , shooting guard James Palmer (St. John’s College HS, D.C.) and most recently center Omar Sherman (Prime Prep, Tx.).

“I think he’s a really, really talented kid and just brings a lot of things to the table,” Harcum assistant Kevon Davis told SNY.tv. “Great kid, extremely hard worker, and he wants to be a great player.”
