  • Trey LylesTrey Lyles is the newest member of Kentucky’s 2014 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-10, 255-pound Arsenal Tech (IN) power forward chose Kentucky over arch-rival Louisville on Tuesday afternoon on ESPNU.

“Next year I will be playing for the University of Kentucky,” Lyles, the No. 7 prospect in the ESPN 100, said on his 18th birthday.

“Just because Coach Cal’s record with players like me, what he’s able to do with guys such as myself, and just really getting us to the stage that we want to be at, which for me is the NBA. I want to be an All-Star,” he added. “And he’s had a lot of guys that have been able to step up to that stage and become All-Stars in the NBA. His overall pitch to me was just perfect and I think it’s going to be the best situation for myself.”

Australian small forward Jonah Bolden is headed Down Under for a short vacation with this family, but before leaving he spoke with SNY.tv about the status of his red-hot recruitment

The 6-foot-9, 210-pound Henderson (NV) Findlay Prep forward recently cut his list to 10 schools —  UCLA, Michigan, UNLV, Louisville, Southern Methodist, LSU, Arizona, Oregon State, Auburn and Vanderbilt — but told SNY.tv that a few were among those working the hardest.

“I’m going to be cutting my list down soon but I’d say the ones that are working hard on me now are UCLA, SMU, Louisville [and] Indiana, that’s probably the top right there,” he said by phone Monday night.

Of that group, Indiana was not on his original list of 10.

Damon Wilson, a 6-foot-4 2015 left-handed point guard from Centereach (N.Y.) Our Savior New American, has verbally pledged to Pittsburgh.

The Powder Springs, Ga., native committed Monday night.

Wilson also held offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Stanford, with interest from North Carolina, N.C. State, Louisville, Ohio State and UCLA.

“Damon wanted to play in the best conference in the country in the ACC for one of the best coaches in the country,” Our Savior coach Eric Jaklitsch said. “He will get to play with James Robinson, who will be a senior when he is a freshman, and also learn from former point guard and Big East Player of the Year, Brandin Knight. He also has a friend on the team in current Pitt freshman Mike Young.”

Illinois coach John Groce continued his recruiting momentum with the addition of 2015 Chicago Simeon wing D.J. Williams.

Williams is ranked No. 45 in the Class of 2015 by Rivals.

“I fell in love with the school my first time on campus,” Williams told Chicagohoops.hoops247.com. “The coaching staff is great.  They supported me through my ups and downs.  Their style of play is my fit.”

The 6-foot-5 wing is close with Kendrick Nunn and Jaylon Tate, two former Simeon guards currently on Illinois’s roster.

Scott Burgess of Chicagohoops.hoops247.com described his game this way:

Reid Travis is due to announce his college choice Friday afternoon, but after visiting Minnesota Monday night for an exhibition game, he says he’s still undecided.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward is considering Minnesota, Duke and Stanford.

“I needed to pick a timetable for myself,” he told the Pioneer Press. “I’m still kind of flipping back and forth, but I’m pretty comfortable that I’ll be able to make a decision Friday.”

Minnesota coach Richard Pitino is recruiting Minnesota’s “Big Three” of Travis, point guard Tyus Jones and shooting guard Rashad Vaughn. But he may have his best chance with Travis, who wants to develop his perimeter game.
