Hallice Cooke to Iowa State

Iowa State has landed 11 transfers in the Fred Hoiberg Era, and now former Oregon State guard Hallice Cooke makes No. 12.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound former St. Anthony standout Tweeted Monday that he has committed to the Cyclones. He will have three years of eligibility after sitting out the 2014-15 season.

Cooke averaged 8.2 points last season while shooting 46 percent from beyond the arc.

Cooke also visited St. Joe’s and Dayton, but SNY.tv wrote earlier this month that Cooke could well land at Iowa State.

He committed to Oregon State in September 2012 on his first official visit, and because of that he took other visits this time around.

Iowa State has a strong connection in that junior forward Dustin Hogue of Yonkers, N.Y., also played for the Sports U AAU program and has developed well.

Hogue played and started all 36 games this past season and averaged 11.6 points and 8.4 rebounds as the Cyclones reached the Sweet 16 before losing to eventual NCAA champ UConn at Madison Square Garden.

“Absolutely,” Sports U director Ed Bright told SNY.tv of Hogue’s development. “I think that the coaching staff at Iowa State is absolutely amazing. I mean, Fred Hoiberg, as far as the college ranks are concerned, he’s a star. I think one day we’ll be seeing him leading an NBA franchise. I just think he’s a tremendous coach. I think he has a tremendous staff. I think he does a lot with his players. We’re very pleased with Dustin, his development. We’re hoping that he will add the components to his game that will allow him to be considered as an NBA Draft pick.”
