  • In his first organized basketball game in nearly 18 months, Nerlens Noel was highly impressive.

The former Kentucky star had a dunk on his first possession and went for 19 points, including 7-for-7 from the line, 4 steals, 3 assists and 1 block as the Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Orlando Magic, 83-77, in the Orlando Summer League.

After getting draft at No. 6 in 2013, Noel missed all of last season recovering from ACL surgery.

**Also on Saturday, former UCLA guard Jordan Adams went for 22 points, including four 3-pointers, in 29 minutes as the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, 84-63. Adams, who features a 6-10 wingspan, also had 4 steals.

Ohio State was always the leader for 6-foot-10 Daniel Giddens of Each 1 Teach 1 and Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler.

And on Thursday, Giddens made it official, pledging to the Buckeyes over Kansas, Georgia, Arizona, Indiana and Florida. Giddens posted an Instagram photo of himself in a Buckeyes T-shirt and hat.

“I talk to them every week; twice, three times a week maybe. There is a great relationship with Coach [Thad] Matta,” Giddens told SNY.tv recently. “They just [have] really told me how they are going to use me in the system.”

Matta sees him as a David West-type player. West played for Matta at Xavier from 2001-2003.

Fed RaonicThis was always Roger Federer’s best shot at winning his 18th Major.

    Wimbledon.

The green lawns of The All-England Club, where Federer is now poised to win an eighth crown after dispatching the Canadian Missile Milos Raonic, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, thanks to one break in each set in the semifinals.

After taking advantage of a draw that broke his way — no Rafael Nadal in the semis — Federer now must earn it against top seed Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s final.

A win in that match would extend Federer’s lead over Nadal to 18-14 in career Majors, and give him some breathing room while Nadal continues to chalk up French Opens every year.

“It’s always great,” the 32-year-old Federer told the BBC of playing Djokovic for a fourth time this year. “We always play good matches against each other. We’ve played a lot actually recently in the last six months. It’s gone back and forth a bit. Novak anyway, he’s a great champion. He’s been around now for a long time so he’s used to these occasions as well and he’s already got the trophy here in the past so he knows how to get it done. So I hope it’s going to be a good match really.”

NerlensNerlens Noel hasn’t played an organized game of basketball since Feb. 12, 2013.

That’s the date he went down with a torn ACL in his left knee when Kentucky was playing Florida.

Now, almost a year and a half later, Noel will return to organized basketball when he starts Saturday in the Philadelphia 76ers’ first summer league game against the Orlando Magic in Orlando.

“Regardless, there’s going to be a lot of adrenaline,” Noel told the Philadelphia Inquirer Thursday after the Sixers’ final practice at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. “I know I’m going to have a lot of nerves, and be a little nervous, but more excitement.”

Rick BRick Brunson, who reportedly was set to be named an assistant coach at Temple later this month, was arrested June 25 on a sexual assault charge at a fitness center in suburban Chicago, according to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The paper sites a Vernon Hills (Ill.) police report saying Brunson grabbed an employee of Lifetime Fitness and was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse and third-degree aggravated battery. No court date was announced.

Wake Forest transfer Tyler Cavanaugh has committed to George Washington, a source told SNY.tv.

The 6-foot-9 junior forward also considered Butler and Dayton. Providence, Colorado, Oregon and Vanderbilt all wanted to get him on campus.

He must sit a year per NCAA regulations.

“I just felt very comfortable with the coaching staff and all the guys on the team,” Cavanaugh told SNY.tv. “I felt that it was the best fit for me academically and athletically.”

Mike Lonergan was the first D-1 school to offer Tyler a scholarship four years ago in Orlando following his sophomore year of high school,” Albany City Rocks coach Jim Hart said of the GW coach. “He recruited Tyler for a year and a half and played against Tyler’s dad in College. GW will have four senior starters joining Tyler when he becomes eligible and they will be very good in the A-10. He loved the whole staff and Carmen Maciariello, a former City Rock alum, joined the staff in the spring. All three finalists have great teams and coaching staffs and Tyler’s main two goals were to get to the NCAA tournament twice and get a great education.”
