After a strong summer in which he won the Peach Jam with the Playaz Basketball Club, T.J. Gibbs is a wanted man.
“It boosted my stock,” Gibbs told SNY.tv by phone Friday. “I think I was able to really show what I was able to do this summer.”
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Seton Hall Prep shooting guard added an offer from Rutgers Thursday during a visit, and will trip to St. John’s sometime next week.
“[Rutgers head coach Eddie Jordan] told me that they want me, they offered me a scholarship,” Gibbs said. “They said they play a two-guard front and they think I can really contribute to it.”
The younger brother of Seton Hall point guard Sterling Gibbs and former Pittsburgh star Ashton Gibbs, T.J. and his family live close to Rutgers in Scotch Plains, N.J.
“I liked everything,” he said. “We went around the campus and saw stuff that I’ve never seen before. I like the fact that it’s close. It’s 20 minutes away form my house and I really felt comfortable there.”
Next up is a trip one day next week to St. John’s, which is making Gibbs a priority in the Class of 2016, sources said, even though they have yet to offer him a scholarship.
“I’m not exactly sure what day I’m going to St. John’s but sometime next week,” he said.
Gibbs now owns offers from Rutgers, Seton Hall, USF, Miami, Xavier, Oklahoma and USC.
He also recently visited Temple, where his father, Temple Gibbs, attended.
“I liked it a lot also,” T.J. said. “My dad went to Temple when he was in college and I liked it a lot. I’ve been to Philly a couple of times and I really never got to see the campus. It was a nice campus.”
