The Big Blue Madness experience at Kentucky is like nothing else, and it impressed one of the best in the nation, Malik Newman.
“It was great,” the 6-foot-4 Newman told SNY.tv Sunday evening. “I had a really great time up there.”
Ranked No. 3 in the nation in the Class of 2015 by 247 Sports, Newman said that the fans made the visit special.
“It was really great because I didn’t realize how much Kentucky loved basketball,” Newman said. “It was good because I could go and see it for myself.”
One of the big bonusesĀ for Newman was seeing rap star Drake, who introduced Kentucky coach John Calipari Friday night and then proceeded to airball a 3-point attempt. He wore Kentucky warmups and sat in the film room with the team .
“It was crazy,” Newman said. “I was shocked, because I didn’t actually think that he was going to come.”
With many players in attendance from the class of 2015, Newman said that he could see himself playing with all of them.
“Really all of the guys,” Newman said. “Carlton Bragg, Jaylen Brown, Stephen Zimmerman and Brandon Ingram.”
Newman averaged 24.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game on the EYBL circuit for the Jackson Tigers. Newman also averaged 29.2 points per game for Callaway (MS) in his junior season.
He recently visited Ole Miss and then postponed a trip to Texas A&M.
He is also thought to be considering UConn, Kansas, N.C. State and Mississippi State, among others.
He said he has no other visits planned at the moment.
