Here’s a few quick recruiting notes from the past few days:
**UConn coach Kevin Ollie and assistant Ricky Moore watched 2015 shooting guard Tyler Dorsey and 2016 shooting guard Vance Jackson, according to Dorsey’s father and Dinos Trigonis. They are pictured here, courtesy Maranatha Athletics
“We like UConn, it makes it real attractive,” Jerrid Dorsey, the player’s father, told SNY.tv last month. “We’re just trying to see where Tyler’s going to really be comfortable at. Not just at UConn, but to one school in general where he can go in and help and do what he does.”
He added: “We’re trying to talk a little bit [with Ollie] and see if it works because we do have five other schools that we’ve been talking to for a little while, so we’re just trying to see if a visit works.”
Now at Los Angeles (CA) Maranatha, Dorsey had cut his list to Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Kansas and Oregon, and has visited all five. He previously cut UConn, St. John’s, Louisville and Georgetown from his list.
**Tai Wynyard, the 6-foot-9 2016 power forward from New Zealand, watched Villanova beat Xavier, 88-75, Wednesday night in Big East action. Wynyard was at Kentucky Tuesday for their rout of Missouri, and will visit Texas this weekend. The Longhorns hosts West Virginia Saturday.
**Ohio State head coach Thad Matta and assistant Dave Dickerson, USF head coach Orlando Antigua and assistant Rod Strickland and Tennessee assistant Chris Shumate watched 2015 shooting guard JaQuan Lyle of IMG (FL) on Wednesday, according to N.D. Kendrick.
**Shamorie Ponds, the prolific 2016 shooting guard from Thomas Jefferson (N.Y.), will take an unofficial visit to Maryland Saturday and watch the Terps play Michigan State, Jefferson coach Lawrence “Bud” Pollard told SNY.tv. Ponds and his teammates are playing this weekend in the MLK Hoopfest at Coolidge High School in Washington, D.C. USC, which recently offered Ponds, will also see him there. Four New York teams — Jefferson, Lincoln, Bishop Loughlin and Construction — as well as St. Benedict’s Prep are in the event. For more on Ponds, read this.
**Texas is the latest to offer Mohammed Bamba of Westtown (Pa.) and the PSA Cardinals, his AAU coach confirmed to SNY.tv. For more on Bamba, read this.
**Several schools are showing interest in former Oregon commit Ray Kasongo, a 6-9 power forward from College of Southern Idaho: Texas, UNLV, Florida State, Arizona State, Memphis, Oregon and St. John’s.
**Temple hosted Traci Carter, Malik Ellison, Sean Alston and Tony Carr Wednesday night.
**VCU’s Shaka Smart will see Vermont Academy’s Ronnie Suggs and Bruce Brown on Sunday. Suggs, a 6-6 2015 shooting guard who decommitted from Missouri, is considering Butler, VCU, Texas Tech, Duquesne and Rice and will decide in the spring.
