Marcus LoVettAfter initially Tweeting he would announce his college decision “in a week,” Marcus LoVett is now planning on waiting until after his season ends.

“Marcus, his dad and I talked it over and decided to postpone it until after the season,” Morgan Park coach Nick Irvin told the Chicago Sun-Times. “That way he can concentrate on the playoffs and then get a chance to take some visits.”

The Sun-Times reported that LoVett has yet to take the ACT, but quoted Irvin as saying that LoVett won’t have to spend a year at prep school.

Irvin listed St. John’s, Illinois, DePaul, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Georgia Tech, Kansas and Tennessee as schools in the mix, but indicated that St. John’s and Illinois were among those working hardest.

“St. John’s is up there, but Illinois is right there too,” Irvin said.

Lovett’s father, Marcus LoVett Sr., recently told SNY.tv the Johnnies are working the hardest for his son.

“Basically it’s St. John’s, there’s nobody else,” LoVett Sr. said.

St. John’s loses a core of players next year including guards D’Angelo Harrison, Phil Greene IV and Jamal Branch and wing Sir’Dominic Pointer. Junior forward Chris Obekpa and sophomore guard Rysheed Jordan could also opt to turn pro.

“I mean, they need guards, they’re losing like five players, right?” LoVett Sr. said. “That’s what Steve [Lavin] told me.”

He added: “I really like St. John’s, I think it’s a good spot.”

St. John’s visits Marquette Wednesday, and St. John’s assistants Tony Chiles and Rico Hines were expected to see LoVett Tuesday in Chicago.
