St. John’s and St. Mary’s are among the schools recruiting Craig Randall, a 6-foot-4 lead guard from Phoenix (AZ) Shadow Mountain who plans to commit this spring.
St. John’s assistant Tony Chiles saw 2015 Randall go for 24 points and 7 rebounds last Wednesday.
“St. John’s just offered me last Thursday, I think I’m going on a visit to St. Mary’s next weekend so they’ll probably offer me on the visit,” Randall told SNY.tv by phone.
An Ohio native who moved to Arizona after his father took a job there, Randall ended up playing for coach Mike Bibby and averaging 21.2 points, 5.6 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals this season for Shadow Mountain. He made the All-Tournament team at the Beach Ball Classic in December.
He is also being courted by TCU, Cal, Missouri and Ole Miss, among others.
“Cal’s coming to watch me work out on Friday so probably after Friday [they will offer] and then Missouri’s coming to watch me on Sunday,” he said.
Randall said he plans to visit St. John’s sometime in the spring.
“After they get done with the [NCAA] Tournament, I’ll go visit St. John’s,” he said. “I’ll probably visit all the rest of the schools after he tournament.”
“[Coach Steve Lavin] said if I work hard, I could be a starting guard for them next year,” Randall added. “He said he really likes me.”
Randall likes the idea of potentially playing in New York.
“It would be fun,” he said. “Of course anybody would want to play in Madison Squarae Garden, especially in college. I like the idea.”
Randall said he’s taken one official to UTEP “early in the fall.”
“After I take all my visits [I will decide], I’m not really in a rush,” he said
