    hilliard-1The Big East Conference will present its postseason awards in the next week or so, but in advance of that we present the ZAGSBLOG All-Big East selections.

    2014-15 BIG EAST Player of the Year
    Darrun Hilliard, Villanova

    –Best player on the best team will edge out Providence’s Kris Dunn, who’s having a terrific year for the Friars. For more, read this story.

    2014-15 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year
    Angel Delgado, Seton Hall

    –Delgado has won three Big East Player of the Week honors, is averaging a near-double-double at 9.3 ppg and 9.9 rpg and leads the Big East with nine double-doubles overall and six in Big East play.

    2014-15 BIG EAST Coach of the Year
    Chris Holtmann, Butler

    –When the season began, Brandon Miller was the head coach of a Butler team picked tied for seventh in the Big East poll. Holtmann took over in October when Miller took a medical leave of absence, was officially given the job in January and now has the Bulldogs tied for second place in the league and headed to the NCAA Tournament.

    2014-15 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year
    Sir’Dominic Pointer, St. John’s

    –The senior from Detroit is tied for second in the league in blocks at 2.6 (behind teammate Chris Obekpa’s 3.2) and ranks third in steals at 2.0 behind Providence’s Kris Dunn and Butler’s Alex Barlow. Johnnies coach Steve Lavin called him “a tornado ripping up and down the court, he’s a force of nature.”

    Sixth Man Award
    Josh Hart, Villanova

    –A member of the Big East All-Rookie team a year ago, Hart comes off the bench to average 9.6 points and 4.4 rebounds for the league’s first-place team and a projected No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

    Most Improved Players
    Myles Davis, Xavier

    –After not starting and averaging 5.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game, the 6-2 sophomore form Plainfield, N.J., native now starts and averages 11.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists

    Phil Greene IV, St. John’s

    –The 6-2 senior from Chicago followed up a junior season in which he averaged 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists with a senior season in which he’s going for 13.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
