The recruitment of Malik Newman carries on.
LSU assistant David Patrick, who hopes to add the 6-foot-3 Newman to a recruiting class that already features Ben Simmons and Antonio Blakeney, watched Newman on Tuesday night.
The uncommitted guard went for 26 points as Callaway (MS) High beat Laurel, 83-73, in an MHSAA Class 5A boys semifinals. Newman and his teammates will play for a fourth straight state championship when they face Ridgeland in the 5A title game at 8 p.m. on Friday.
Newman is expected to announce his college choice sometime during the late signing period, possibly after the NBA Early Entry Eligibility Deadline on April 26.
He’s also considering Kentucky, N.C. State and Kansas, among others.

EUBANKS ENJOYS TEXAS, PLANS UCLA VISIT
By EDDIE GIBBON
NEW LONDON, Conn— At the 2015 National Prep Championship, Kobie Eubanks and Elev-8 Prep (FL) lost to St. Thomas More (CT) 111-107 after three overtime periods.
Eubanks, a 6-5 guard, is one of the best available in the 2015 class.
After de-committing from Baylor in late November, Eubanks began to receive interest from some of the nation’s best programs. However, in January Eubanks cut his list down to five finalists: Georgia, Missouri, Oregon, Texas and UCLA.
At this point he has taken official visits to Oregon (Jan. 23) and Texas (March 7). Eubanks discussed what he enjoyed about the visit to Texas over this past weekend.
“It was really good, and I liked how the team carried themselves. The team had a great chemistry, and they made me feel like family,” Eubanks said.
He went on to talk about what he likes about head coach Rick Barnes.
“Coach Barnes demands a lot out of you,” he said. “He’s going to push you, but he’s going to push you to be the best. If you come in, and put the work in it’s worth it.”
At this point in the process, Eubanks said that he is planning to take at least one more official visit.
“I’m still setting up a visit to UCLA and possibly Missouri,” he said.
When asked what he liked about those two programs, he said, “Not only the playing style, but all of the schools have shooting guards leaving or are in desperate need for a scorer.”
In terms of what Eubanks expects his role to be as a freshmen next year, he hopes to start off the bat and be an impact player right away.
“I want to carry my team to the next level,” Eubanks said.
In terms of a timetable, now that the season is over for him and his teammates you can expect a decision relatively soon.
“A week or two after all of this is over with.”
