Shaka Smart could be introduced as the new Texas coach by Friday, according to a report from the Austin American-Statesman.

Texas parted ways with former coach Rick Barnes last weekend, and he subsequently became the new coach at Tennessee.

Smart, 37, is 163-56 in six years at VCU, taking the Rams to the Final Four in 2011.

Meantime, Jason King of Bleacher Report writes that Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall will remain at that school and won’t entertain an offer from Auburn.

Marshall agreed to a new seven-year deal worth an average of $3.3 million annually, according to CBSSports.com.
