MINNEAPOLIS – An EYBL veteran, BABC’s Bruce Brown has put on quite the show this spring. The 2016 guard out of Vermont Academy has averaged 16.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.7 steals through three sessions.
“I’ve been playing well,” Brown told SNY.tv. “I’ve been scoring a lot and getting assists and rebounding, so just showing my all-around game.”
The 6-foot-3 scorer gets a lot of touches for BABC. At the next level, he’s also hoping to be the focal point of his team.
“With my recruitment, I’ll just be looking at the way programs play, if their guards score, and if the coach is not too crazy,” he said. “I’m looking for coaches who are able to put the ball in my hands, that’s what I’m looking for in my recruitment.”
Brown listed Arizona, Arizona State, Indiana, Michigan, St. John’s, Texas, and UNLV as the schools recruiting him. He’ll take unofficial visits to Arizona and Arizona State in the fall and will visit St. John’s next weekend.
“At Arizona, I’m talking to one of their assistant coaches,” he said. “He called me the other day and said that he wants me to come on a visit. I’m also going to Arizona State. I like [head coach Bobby] Hurley. He’s asked me to come there, score, and do whatever I want, basically.”
St. John’s has attracted Brown because of coach Chris Mullin’s background and the buzz he has created about the program.
“They like me a lot and have been talking to me a lot,” he said. “They say I can be a big one for them, that they can get me to the next level, and that I can do really well. That’s kind of the same with Indiana. They want me to come in and score. Do whatever basically, play the 1.”
The program on that list that he still needs to become more familiar with is Texas.
“I was talking to [coach] Shaka [Smart] when I was at VCU,” he said. “I like their coaching staff. I don’t know much about the school, but I like their coaching staff.”
