The 6-foot-2 Gibbs will visit UConn beginning Wednesday and has already visited Pittsburgh, the alma mater of his older brother, Ashton Gibbs.

“Ohio State was a great visit,” Sterling told SNY.tv. “Me and my family really enjoyed the coaches and were able to get a good feel for what they have planned for next year.”

Ohio State lost freshman scoring guard D’Angelo Russell to the NBA Draft, where he is expected to be a  Top-5 pick. The Buckeyes also lost senior Shannon Scott.

“It’s a great school,” Temple Gibbs told the Columbus Dispatch. “It would be a great situation for him. He’s a fifth-year guy, and it would be an opportunity for him to come into a new situation.”

Akele also had offers from George Mason and USF with interest from California, Michigan, Arizona and Miami, IMG coach Mike Kelly told SNY.tv.

“I decided to pick URI because I really like Coach [Dan] Hurley and his staff,” Akele told SNY.tv. “I like that they have ambitious goals for the next season, to win the conference and go to the Big Dance. I really also like the component of the team”

“He really liked the coaching staff and the campus at Rhode Island,” Kelly added. “I think it’s a great fit for Coach Hurley. I really believe with the individual instruction he’ll get the next few years he will become a great player at that level.”

MoOfieldTwo months after committing to Bobby Hurley at chilly Buffalo, junior college star Maurice O’Field committed to Bobby Hurley at sunny Arizona State.

A 6-foot-5, 210-pound small forward from Midland (TX) College who averaged 15.8 points, 5 rebounds and 2.9 assists and has three years of eligibility left, O’Field pledged to Arizona State on Friday.

The No. 16-rated junior college player in the nation according to Brad Winton of JUCORecruiting.com, he also had offers from Gonzaga, Marquette, Louisiana Tech and Buffalo, among others.

“I just want to follow the coaching style of Coach Hurley,” O’Field told SNY.tv by phone from his visit. “I liked what he did at Buffalo and I saw that. It just makes it even better at a higher level in the Pac-12.”
