  • Jayson Tatum, the five-star guard out of Chaminade Prep (MO), is down to two schools, although he hasn’t publicly revealed which two, according to a report from KMOV in St. Louis.

Officially, the 6-foot-8 small forward is considering Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina and hometown St. Louis.

“A lot of people (say to me) ‘SLU? Really?’ I’m dead serious about it,” Tatum told Brian Feldman of KMOV.

“I know how much it would mean for my family and for the city of St. Louis if someone my caliber of talent were to stay home and play for SLU. It’d be a big deal,” Tatum said.

CG6TtqWUQAAMgKNNovak Djokovic will have to wait at least another year to achieve the career Grand Slam.

Stan Wawrinka saw to that when he stunned the world’s No. 1 player in four sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, to win his first French Open title and second Grand Slam crown. The Swiss won his first over Rafael Nadal in the 2014 Australian Open.

The loss snapped a 28-match winning streak for Djokovic, who was attempting to join an elite club of men who have won the career Slam. That list includes Nadal, Roger Federer, Andre Agassi, Roy Emerson, Rod Laver, Don Budge, and Fred Perry.

“I play my best tennis today, it was amazing match, amazing level,” Wawrinka told John McEnroe on court. “Was not easy, a little bit windy. And when you play Novak No. 1, you have to go with your shot and I’m surprised I was playing well but I’m really, really happy to get that trophy.”

He added: “I feel great. For sure. I’m playing my best tennis at 30 now.”

Wawrinka, 30, became just the second man not named Nadal to win the French since 2005. The other was Federer, Wawrinka’s Swiss countryman and Davis Cup teammate. Wawrinka also became the first man to win a Slam after the age of 30 since Federer did it at Wimbledon in 2012.

Following the victory, Federer Tweeted, “CHAMP @stanwawrinka.”

Wawrinka, long in Federer’s shadow, had taken out his countryman in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

If Chris Mullin and his staff were trying to make an impression on some of the best young talent in New York and New Jersey, it sounds like they succeeded on Saturday.

With about 15 top area players from the Classes of 2016, ’17 and ’18 in attendance, Mullin and assistant Barry “Slice” Rohrssen talked about the vision for the future and how they envisioned developing young players for potential pro careers down the road.

Greg St. Jean, a former Wesleyan University basketball player and the the son of former Sacramento Kings head coach Garry St. Jean, is the acting third assistant and is helping to work out St. John’s players. The recruits watched video and played pickup on campus.

Bamba was one of 15 top New York area players on the St. John’s campus on Saturday for an Elite Camp at which head coach Chris Mullin offered him.

“Chris Mullin told Mohamed he’s going to be their No. 1 priority in the 2017 class.” Williams said.

Meantime, Indiana coach Tom Crean also reached out.
