SUWANEE, Ga.- Trevon Duval is about as good as it gets, and he showed out on Wednesday night, hitting a game-winning layup en route to 24 points in a 59-58 win over Josh Jackson and 1 Nation in the UAA Finals.
“It’s crazy that all of these coaches are here watching this game,” Duval told SNY.tv after the win. “Hopefully good things come out of it.”
Playing in front of close to 100 coaches, including Roy Williams, John Calipari, Sean Miller, Tom Izzo, Avery Johnson, Gregg Marshall, as well as assistants from Syracuse, Duke, Maryland, Texas, South Carolina, LSU and Miami, Duval says that he does notice the schools that are present.
“I do notice them,” said Duval, a 2017 point guard from Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict’s Prep. “Especially big coaches that I see on TV all of the time. But I do try to focus on the game.”
One coach told SNY.tv that Duval might be a “$100-million player” down the road in the pros.
His current high school coach, Mark Taylor of St. Benedict’s, told SNY.tv that Duval is “better than Isaiah Briscoe and Tyler Ennis” right now and “by the time he graduates he will be better than Jay Williams.”
“He’s the best guard I have coached,” Taylor said.
Duval says he feels he’s had a successful summer on the UA Circuit with WE-R1.
“I think I’ve had a pretty good summer,” Duval said. “I’ve played against competition from all over the country, I’m proving to everyone including myself that I’m a top ranked prospect.”
When he was asked what schools are showing the most interest at the moment, Duval said that no one really was head and shoulders above the rest, just that there are a lot of schools interested at the moment.
“Villanova, Syracuse, Seton Hall, UNC, Duke, Arizona,” Duval said. “A lot of schools.”
As a member of the Peach Jam winning team last year on the NJ Playaz, Duval has a chance to win a championship with We-R1 on the UA Circuit.
“It would really be great,” Duval said. “Last year I won Peach Jam, it would be great to win a UA Final like this.”
