  • Maverick RowanFour-star small forward Maverick Rowan has a new list.

Rowan is now considering St. John’s, N.C. State, West Virginia and Louisville, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello and Scout’s Evan Daniels.

Rowan told Daniels he won’t take any more visits.

    “Probably not,” he said.

Rowan, who continues to take classes toward reclassifying into 2015, recently said he was down to St. John’s, Wisconsin and North Carolina State. But Bo Ryan’s imminent retirement appears to have pushed the Badgers out of the mix.

    Mustapha Heron

SUWANEE, Ga. — Despite some confusion, Mustapha Heron does not have a final list of schools, only a list of schools he is currently working with.

“I know his dad cut his list,” NY Rens coach Andy Borman said. “But it’s not his final list. The bottom line with Mustapha is that he is a nationally ranked player. If they didn’t cut down their list, they wouldn’t have time to eat or sleep, because schools would be calling him every hour. He’s still open. That list can change. People can get on that list. Those are the schools that they have the best relationship with as of now. Schools can fall off, schools can come on.”

Bryan Heron, the player’s father, told SNY.tv by text his son is considering seven schools at the moment — SMU, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, St. John’s, Maryland and Marquette.

SUWANNE, Ga. — Duke went three deep for 2016 point guard Dennis Smith Wednesday night at the adidas Gauntlet Finale here.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski and assistants Jeff Capel and Jon Scheyer saw the 6-foot-3 2016 lead guard from Fayetteville (N.C.) Trinity Christian put up 18 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds in a 61-57 win for Team Loaded over Stackhouse Elite.

North Carolina coach Roy Williams, N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried, Stanford’s Johnny Dawkins, West Virginia’s Bob Huggins, Notre Dame’s Mike Brey, Pitt’s Jamie Dixon and Louisville assistants Ralph Willard and David Padgett were also among those in attendance, according to Legwin and Andrew Slater of 247Sports.com.

SUWANEE, Ga. — As expected, a legion of big-time Division 1 coaches turned out on the first night of the July live period in Atlanta to watch the NY Rens team featuring Rawle Alkins and Mustapha Heron at the Adidas Gauntlet Finale.

Both players remain open in their recruitments, and are being targeted by a ton of big-time schools.

Among the coaches on hand were Kentucky’s John Calipari, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, North Carolina’s Roy Williams, SMU’s Larry Brown, St. John’s Chris Mullin, Texas’ Shaka Smart, West Virginia’s Bob Huggins, Xavier’s Chris Mack, Alabama’s Avery Johnson and Pitt’s Jamie Dixon.

With Calipari in the building, Alkins said after the win over Brookwood Elite that he likes the team that the Wildcats produce every year.

“They’re a very good program,” Alkins told SNY.tv. “Obviously, he coaches a lot of one-and-done guys, top ten drafted guys, too. Coach Calipari, he’s a coach that has been there before. He knows what it takes.”

AVALON, N.J. — The July live period is about to kick off with three five-day periods across the next three weeks and ZAGSBLOG will have coverage from numerous events, including Peach Jam, the adidas Gauntlet Finale, the adidas All-American Camp, the Nike Global Challenge and more.

Here are five key storylines entering July:

    1. What will Georgios Papagiannis do?

4_2918900This question was answered very quickly after I posted it. The 7-foot-1 Greek big man will stay in Greece with his club Panathinaikos instead of attending an American college, a source told SNY.tv Wednesday morning. He had been considering St. John’s, N.C. State and Oregon.

“He is staying in Greece,” Kanellos Papagiannis, the player’s father, told SI.com.

Papagiannis at one point was a projected first-round pick in 2016.

“He’s really good,” one D-1 assistant told SNY.tv. “If he can adjust to college, he can be a first-round draft pick after one year. He’s got to adjust.”
