KeysMadison Keys has already been heralded by Serena Williams as the future No. 1 player in the world.

For now, Serena is the undisputed holder of that title as she pursues the Grand Slam here at the US Open.

But the 20-year-old Keys took one step closer to another showdown with Serena when she knocked off Tereza Smitkova of the Czech Republic, 6-1, 6-2, in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday to advance to the third round.

“It was amazing,” Keys said. “I don’t know if it’s because of the roof now, but it didn’t seem as big as I thought it was going to feel. It was amazing to play out there.

“I thought I played pretty well, so hopefully I can have many more matches on Ashe.”
