Trae Young Planning Visits to Texas, Kentucky, Kansas (UPDATED)
Trae Young, a 6-foot-1 2017 point guard from Norman (OK) North, has several visits planned in the next six weeks, his father confirmed to SNY.tv.
Young will visit Texas unofficially this weekend.
He will then trip to Kansas for Late Night in the Phog (Oct. 17) and Kentucky for Big Blue Madness the following weekend. He had been planning to visit UCLA the first week in November, but won’t do so now after the news that 2017 point guard Jaylen Hands has committed to the Bruins.
UCLA head coach Steve Alford was to visit Young Wednesday. but instead spoke with Rayford Young on the phone.
“They’re going to still stay in contact with him because in today’s age, with the kids that commit and recommit and all that,” the elder Young said. “But Trae already has relationships with other coaches. I don’t blame Jaylen Hands and his family because I think they knew how close Trae was with that staff and they can’t wait on Trae forever.”
Rayford said his son would cut his list — possibly to seven schools — after consulting with Michael Porter Jr.
Young told SNY.tv at the Peach Jam in July that he and Porter Jr. are actively considering a package in college, adding that many schools are interested in both players.
“I think quite a bit are,” Young said then. “I mean Duke, obviously. Oklahoma, Missouri, Washington, Virginia, Kansas, UCLA, Arizona. Those are a few, but most of the schools that are recruiting me are recruiting him and vice versa.”
Porter Jr. also echoed the package plan.
“Most of the schools that are going after me are going after him,” he said. “And just seeing how we play together on the court now we feel we that it’s something we want to do if it works out, of course.”
