    Shamorie Ponds has four school visits slated for this week and it appears he will take his two remaining official visits before making a college decision.

    There had been a possibility that he might decide after his recent official to St. John’s, his father told SNY.tv, but now it appears the visits will go forward.

    The 6-foot-1 Thomas Jefferson guard hosts St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin, Creighton coach Greg McDermott and Providence coach Ed Cooley on Wednesday at his school, and Minnesota head man Richard Pitino comes in Thursday. Ponds is still planning to visit Providence Sept. 11-13 and Minnesota Sept. 18-20. He has already visited Creighton along with St. John’s.

    headshot_1_armonddavismugMemphis picked up a commitment on Saturday from Ar’Mond Davis, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard who averaged 10.9 points and 3.9 rebounds last season at the College of Southern Idaho.

    Davis committed on his visit even though he had a visit slated for Texas A&M next week, Alabama after that and LSU Oct. 3.

    CSI coach Jared Phay said Memphis is getting a player who can help them going forward.

    4_3600246Taurean Thompson, a 6-foot-9 power forward now at Brewster (N.H.) Academy, took his first official visit to Xavier this weekend and really enjoyed himself.

    “The visit went extremely well,” he told SNY.tv. “It was my first official so I did not know what to expect. I was looking forward to finally meeting Coach [Chris] Mack, the rest of the coaching staff an the reps of the school in person.

    “I feel comfortable with the current players, incoming recruits and what role I would play. The most important part of the visit for me was more about watching how the players responded to Coach and to get a feel for the campus and program. Now I can’t wait to see the game atmosphere in the Cintas Center. I’m excited.”

    One year after leaving Lincoln High School to become an assistant coach at Seton Hall, Dwayne “Tiny” Morton is back as the head coach at the Brooklyn school, multiple sources told SNY.tv.

    Morton told SNY.tv he was not able to comment at the moment.

    Morton left Seton Hall last week and told SNY.tv he planed to return to teaching math at Shirley Tanyhill School.

    “If Lincoln [High School] accepts me back, I will be honored,” he said then. “This is in no way a basketball thing.”

    With John Isner set to take on Roger Federer in the fourth round of the US Open on Labor Day, Isner has challenged the Swiss Maestro to use his new SABR shot against him.

    “If he wants to try that against my serve, by all means give it a shot,” Isner said on ESPN. “I think it would be tough but we’ll see what happens.”

    Isner made the comment in a lighthearted fashion, and probably knows Federer won’t try the “Sneak Attack by Roger” against the 6-foot-10 former Georgia Bulldog, who once served at 149.9 mph.

    On the SABR, Federer sneaks up right behind the service line to attack the opponent’s second serve and rush the net.

    It was earlier this week when Rafael Nadal made a very interesting and prescient statement at this US Open.

    Speaking of himself and his longtime rival Roger Federer, the 29-year-old Nadal said: “You know, don’t forget that for everybody [there] is a start and for everybody is an end. We still here, but tomorrow we not going to be here.

    “[Pete] Sampras was here. He’s not here anymore. [Jimmy] Connors, [John] McEnroe, everybody pass. The sport continues.”

    The US Open will now continue without Nadal after he blew a two sets to love lead on Italian Fabio Fognini and crashed out in the third round, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 .

    Fognini will go on to face Feliciano Lopez, meaning there will be no blockbuster Nadal-Novak Djokovic quarterfinal on Tuesday night.
