As we reported last week, Seton Hall is attempting to land a “Fab Five” of its own from the New Jersey area.
The Pirates on Sunday hosted the Sports U Team Izod Class of 2018 quintet of Jahvon Quinerly, Luther Muhammad, Atiba Taylor, Louis King and Naz Reid.
The players visited Seton Hall one day after sophomore guard Isaiah Whitehead went for 40 points in an 84-79 exhibition win over Baruch College.
“We didn’t really get to talk to the players but we said what’s up to them,” said Quinerly, a 6-foot point guard told SNY.tv.
Asked what the message from coach Kevin Willard and his staff was, Quinerly said: “Basically that they want us all to stay home, get an education and they would like to build a team around us five.”
Sports U coach Brian Coleman accompanied the boys and their parents on the visit.
“I thought the visit went well,” he said. “The kids got to watch Seton Hall practice. They got a chance to see the high intensity and fast pace of a college practice. They met with some of the academic staff to learn about the every day life of a student athlete in college, learning about the academic support the athletes get and how they’re all taught about managing their time productively. Both the parents and kids got a chance to meet Coach Willard up close and personal to see how passionate he was about making sure his guys all graduate. He also spoke to them about his style of play and the freedom he allows his players to play with.
“I think the kids and the parents got a chance to learn more about Seton Hall then I think they new before.”
