Terrell Myers, Keita’s coach with the WE-R1 AAU program, said Keita chose the Gamecocks because of the relationship they developed with him.
“Sedee felt comfortable with the coaching staff, those guys built a great relationship with him,” he told SNY.tv. “He is excited to play in the SEC because he feels like it’s a fast pace league that fits him. He also feels like Coach Martin’s intensity is what he needs to help him grow as a player and eventually become an all SEC selection. I am truly Happy for Sedee and his family.”
As far as a skill set, South Carolina is getting a big man with guard skills.
“He has the total package,” Myers said. “The story is five years ago he was 5-11 and in two years he grew to 6-10. Our middle Coach Prescott groomed him to be a guard so he moves like a guard, passes like a guard , shoots it, defends and rebounds like a big man. He is extremely talented.”
South Carolina head coach Frank Martin scored a key commitment on Monday when he landed Sedee Keita, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Putnam (CT) Science Academy.
Ranked the No. 20 power forward in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports.com, Keita also considered Penn State, Providence and Temple, among others.
