Thon Maker has set his first official visit for Arizona State in late January, his guardian told Scout.com.
“We are looking to visit Arizona State for their game against Oregon,” Ed Smith told Scout. “We play against Prolific in Napa and we’ll go from there and visit Arizona State at that time. I think that’s around the 29th.”
On Thursday, Maker listed Arizona State, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Notre Dame and St. John’s as the schools recruiting him the hardest.
Maker will choose a college in the spring and is also hoping to take official visits to Kansas and Notre Dame, Smith told SNY.tv previously
“As the season goes on, that’s what we look forward to do,” Maker recently told SNY.tv. “Last year I got a chance to take a few visits on the road so I really want to do something like that again. I know I’ll definitely take a few, if not all my officials on the road also, but I don’t know any particular dates.”
Maker visited Kansas last weekend unofficially and plans to return for an official.
“[Kansas’] point guard Frank Mason is a Team Loaded guy and played under coach [Michael] Blackwell and Ty White so you know he’s cut tough,” Smith told SNY.tv of Kansas. “The other guard Devonte’ [Graham] can share it or score it. They lose a lot of their front line but got three big wings that can shoot and slash in [Brannen] Green, [Wayne] Selden, and [Sviatoslav] Mykhailiuk if they stay. For Thon it’s intriguing to see how the frontline shapes up, who stays, and how things play out with Cheick [Diallo].
“Cheick is such a good kid and it was hard for Thon to watch him sit because they’ve battled in the past and both chase the same dream of playing in the NBA. Right now Thon is playing so well under coach [Brandon] Lesovsky so you want to go from positive to positive.”
