The 6-foot-2 combo guard from the Columbia (S.C.) Hammond School announced for North Carolina on Wednesday, choosing the Tar Heels over home state South Carolina.
“It was a tough decision,” Woods told The Post and Courier. “South Carolina was definitely in the picture. I went with my heart.”
Woods is ranked the No. 6 combo guard in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports.com.
“It was always back and forth between the two,” Woods said. USC “is (in) my hometown, my home state. I’ve got family there. P.J. [Dozier], he’s like my brother. But I had to make my decision for what I wanted to do.”
De’Aaron Fox, the No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2016, will announce his college choice on Thursday at 6 ET on ESPNU’s Recruiting Nation.
Fox, who has drawn comparisons to Washington Wizards guard John Wall, is considering Kentucky, Kansas, LSU and Louisville, with Kentucky the favorite to land the talented guard.
“With the ball in his hand, Fox has blazing speed with the ability to put pressure on opponents,” ESPN’s Paul Biancardi said. “Over the summer, Fox found the balance between scoring and distributing, elevating his performance to an elite level. More impressively, he then separated himself with his defensive prowess. Because of his outstanding play on both sides of the ball, he ascended into the ESPN 100 top 10 as the No. 7 overall player and the nation’s second ranked guard.”
Michigan State coach Tom Izzo watched Josh Jackson put on a show on Saturday.
The 6-foot-7 small forward from Prolific Prep (CA) went off for 30 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks as his team lost to Victory Rock Prep (FL), 98-91, at the Cornfield Classic in Ames, Iowa.
Izzo would love to add the Michigan native to a blockbuster class that already includes Miles Bridges, Cassius Winston, Nick Ward and Josh Langford.
Arizona, Kansas and Maryland are among the other schools involved for Jackson, the projected No. 3 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com.
