Trevon Duval, the top point guard in the Class of 2017, attended the Kansas-Baylor game Tuesday night and hopes to visit several other schools going forward this spring.

A Delaware native who transferred to Advanced Prep International in Dallas from St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, the 6-foot-3 Duval is a possible future pro. He wowed NBA scouts at the Under Armour Elite 24 Game in New York in August.

Duval holds offers from Villanova, Arizona, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, Syracuse, UConn, Kansas, Baylor, Oregon, Oklahoma, UCLA, N.C. State, Rutgers, Seton Hall and St. John’s, among others.

As for the Baylor visit, Trevor Duval, Trevon’s father, said, “It was a good atmosphere. [We liked] the weight room, practice facilities, the team lounge, it’s a nice facility.”

Baylor coach Scott Drew “seems like a real good coach,” Trevor added. “He gives them freedom. I have to watch them a little more. He’s a player’s coach, seems like the players really respect him and like him.”

Trevor said no other visits are planned right now.

“The high school season is starting to die down, so we’ll take some visits to some of the local schools in the area,” he said. “SMU, took one to Baylor, we’re trying to get out to Kansas. I think that’s after the season is over.”

Trevor said Kansas has maintained a strong relationship with the family via head coach Bill Self and assistant Norm Roberts.

“They’ve just been real consistent in his recruitment, Kansas has always been keeping in contact which is very important,” Trevor said.

“Sometimes schools aren’t consistent. They just contact him [Trevon]. He’s a child at the end of the day. His recruiting decision will be a family decision, so if they’re not contacting me also that’s not good. Me and his mom are going to be very involved in his recruitment, it’s going to be a family decision. So that’s important to us.”

Asked what other schools were “consistent” in their recruitment, Trevor included Maryland, Kansas, Oklahoma, Villanova and St. John’s.

“Oklahoma right now, they are obviously the No. 1 team in the country,” Trevon said last month when the Sooners were No. 1. “They’re coming after me pretty hard right now. I fit into their playing style as well. So that’s why I like them.”

Duval took an unofficial to Maryland last summer after the Under Armour Elite 24 Game.

“It was a good experience,” Trevor Duval said in August of his son’s visit there. “They have a friendly staff and great facilities.”

Trevor added on Wednesday: “They just try to compare him to Melo Trimble.”

Trevor also listed Villanova and St. John’s as schools that have had consistent contact.

“Villanova has just been consistent from day one,” Trevor said. “I like Jay Wright’s staff and I like Jay’s discipline.”

“St. John’s is starting to really communicate,” Trevor added. “They’ve come and checked him out a couple times and said they want to come back.”

St. John’s assistant Barry “Slice” Rohrssen watched Duval at API last month as first reported by SNY.tv.

“As for St. John’s, being from New York, they said that I could play at Madison Square Garden, and they have a style that fits me too, so they’re coming hard,” Trevon said last month.

Trevor reiterated that they may visit Villanova and St. John’s, and possibly others, in the spring “after the season dies down.”

Syracuse has long been linked to Duval, but Trevor said, “Syracuse I haven’t heard from.”

As for Duke and Kentucky, their level of contact has not been as consistent.

“I talked to Duke and Kentucky a few weeks ago,” he said. “Again, consistency is important in this process not names. We’re not caught up in the big names, we’re have to go with who’s recruiting him the hardest.”

Trevor said they have no plans to cut their list right now.

“Not at this time, no,” he said.

Duval’s parents live in Delaware, but his father said location wouldn’t factor into a decision.

“No, it doens’t matter,” he said. “He’s just going to go to a school that’s the best situation for him.”
