Defending NCAA champion Villanova will face Notre Dame and Pittsburgh will meet Penn State in the Never Forget Tribute Classic at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Dec. 10.
Villanova will face Notre Dame at noon on CBS, while Pittsburgh will face Penn State at 2:30 on CBS Sports Network.
All four teams have connections to New Jersey and continue to recruit there. “We’re honored to be a part of the inaugural 2016 Never Forget Tribute Classic,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said. “To participate in an event that raises scholarship funds for the victims of the September 11 attacks means so much to our program and University. We’re also excited to compete against an outstanding Notre Dame program. We enjoyed a lot of great battles with Coach Brey’s teams, beginning when we were both in America East, and more recently in the Big East. It should be a great day of basketball.” “Taking on the defending national champion and a program of Villanova’s caliber will be a great thrill and challenge for us early in the season,” Irish coach Mike Brey said. “We also are honored to participate in an event that will benefit the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund.” NN
