Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar has hired Michael Porter Sr., the father of Class of 2017 star Michael Porter Jr., as an assistant coach.
Eric Bossi of Rivals first reported the news.
Porter Sr. had been an assistant women’s coach at Missouri. His son, Johntay Porter, a Class of 2018 power forward, committed to the Huskies last August. Romar is also the godfather of the 6-foot-9 Porter Jr., the No. 1-ranked small forward in the Class of 2017 out of Columbia (MO) Father Tolton.
Porter Jr. also holds offers Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and Missouri, among others.
He and Class of 2017 point guard Trae Young, teammates on the Mokan Elite AAU club, have talked openly about a package deal.
“That package is still there,” Porter told SNY.tv last December. “We are trying to make it work. It’s harder than we thought, but we are trying to make it work.”
He added: “I hope to commit by the end of next summer.”
