Wagner coach Bashir Mason added two new pieces for the upcoming season on Monday.
The Seahawks added Shackquiel Scott, a 6-foot-7 wing forward from Monroe (N.Y.) College, and Connor Ferrell, a 6-4 guard from Daytona (FL) DME Sports Academy.
They join 6-8 power forward Jamar Brown of Wings Academy in New York in Wagner’s 2016 class.
Scott, a Paterson, N.J., native spent one season at Iona before attending Monroe, where averaged 11.5 points and 5.9 rebounds last season. He also considered Delaware State, Niagara and Southern.
“It felt like home as soon stepped on campus,” Scott said. The coaching staff is great and has a real family structure . Coach Bash is the kind of coach you would love to play for and I feel he can better my game . Also, the school has a very good business program.”
Ferrell, the son of former NBA forward Duane Ferrell, also considered Detroit, Utah and Grand Canyon.
“I just thought it was a good fit,” Connor said of Wagner. “As soon as I got on campus they showed me love like we were already family. I just knew from there this was the right choice.
He averaged 17.5 points and 4.0 assists as a senior at Conyers (Ga.) High in 2014-15, and 11 points and 3 assists last season at DME Sports Academy.
“I will bring an all-around game, scoring, facilitating and doing what I’m best at that will help this team.”
Said DME Sports Academy coach Chris Chaney: “Connor improved on a weekly basis. He can score in a variety of ways and has good size and length for this position. He has a really good upside and Wagner is a good fit.”
