Chris Mullin got a head start on his recruiting for the Class of 2018 on Monday when he landed a pledge from Boubacar Diakite, a 6-foot-8 forward from Our Savior New American who visited the school’s Elite Camp last week.

Diakite, known as Bouki, joins fellow Mali native and former Our Savior teammate Kassoum Yakwe, in the St. John’s family.

“I have a great relationship with St. John’s,” Diakite, who runs with the PSA Cardinals 16U team, told 247Sports.com. “They made me feel a part of their family from the start. Having the relationship made me feel comfortable. I am excited to play for Chris Mullin and be a part of such a great history. This is a very exciting decision for me and my family and now will be focused on getting better with basketball and focus on academics.”

Our Savior assistant Eric Jaklitsch told SNY.tv: “Bouki is striving to improve daily on and off court. His potential is through the roof. His best basketball is certainly ahead of him. We’re expecting a big year from him.”

St. John’s currently has no scholarships for the Class of 2017 and is expected to go big in 2018 and beyond.

On Tuesday at midnight, coaches can begin calling Class of 2018 prospects and St. John’s is expected to ramp up their focus on that class by reaching out to a number of prospects, including Naz Reid, Luther Muhammad, Louis King, Jahvon Quinerly, Moses Brown, Aundre Hyatt, Greg Williams Jr., Anthony Nelson, Carte’Are Gordon, Bol Bol and Keenan Fitzmorris.
