Grandstaff started his collegiate career at Ohio State last season before transferring to Oklahoma. He appeared in 10 games and averaged 4.4 points per game for the Buckeyes before leaving Columbus at the conclusion of the first academic semester.
“Austin is a highly-skilled guard with great positional size. Throughout his prep career, both in high school and on the AAU circuit, Austin demonstrated an exceptional ability to score the basketball,” said Leitao. “Many people know him for his shooting prowess, and he is an excellent shooter who has range that extends well beyond the three-point line, but Austin also possesses the ability to make plays for both himself and his teammates off the bounce.”
A consensus four-star recruit ranked among the top 60 players in the class of 2015, Grandstaff scored over 2,200 career points at Rockwall High School. Known as a prolific shooter, Grandstaff has some of best range in the 2015 recruiting class and was selected to play in the 2015 Jordan Brand Classic, the 2015 Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic and the 2014 Nike Global Challenge.
He claimed the Texas Class 6A scoring title as a senior after averaging 29.0 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per outing. During his junior season, Grandstaff averaged 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
“We are not only adding a talented player to our roster, we are adding a quality young man that is hungry to grow and improve as a player, as a student and as a person,” said Leitao. “We look forward to Austin joining our program later this summer and are thrilled that he chose to be a part of what we are building here at DePaul.”
Grandstaff joins eight other newcomers to the DePaul roster as the Blue Demons prepare for the 2016-17 campaign. The newcomers include four freshmen (Levi Cook, Brandon Cyrus, Al Eichelberger, Devin Gage), one graduate transfer (Chris Harrison-Docks), one junior college transfer (Tre’Darius McCallum), two transfers sitting out the 2016-17 season (Max Strus, Austin Grandstaff) and one transfer that sat out the 2015-16 season (David Leitao III).
