Ever since he reclassed into the Class of 2018 earlier this month, Sid Wilson’s recruitment has really taken off.
After averaging 18.5 points at the Under Armour event in Charlotte last weekend, the 6-foot-7 from The Bronx, has added offers from St. John’s, UNLV, SMU, USC and Memphis. He said he may also visit Texas sometime in August.
“It feels good,” Wilson, who will transfer to Brewster (N.H.) Academy from St. Raymond’s, told SNY.tv. “I played really well in [Charlotte] N.C. so the coaches are noticing.”
Despite the fact that he had been a standout in New York City, St. John’s had not offered Wilson until Monday when assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih spoke with Wilson.
“I felt like I should have been offered by them but they explained everything to me and we are building a relationship now,” Wilson said.
St. John’s technically doesn’t have any scholarships for 2017 — although they are recruiting Mohamed Bamba, Hamidou Diallo and Hasahn French, among others — and now have flexibility to recruit Wilson in 2018.
“They didn’t have any offer sports left in my class with all the transfers and such and they had offered so many kids there wasn’t a spot for me in 2017,” Wilson said. “But now that I’m 2018 they wanted to offer me. They said I’m a priority for them in 2018.”
