GARDEN GROVE, Calif. — As former Arizona commit Terrance Ferguson touched down in Australia to play with the Adelaide 36ers, incoming freshmen Rawle Alkins and Kobi Simmons are excited to share the Arizona backcourt together.
Playing in the Adidas Nations here, Alkins and Simmons have fared well together with Team Magic and are beginning to develop some chemistry.
“It’s building.” said the 6-foot-6 Simmons. “Every time we play with each other, every time we step on the court, the chemistry builds, so that’s a big upside to this upcoming season. We have something to prove.”
Despite the loss of Ferguson, the 6-4 Alkins doesn’t seem worried, saying, “I wish Terrance the best. He’s a really good player, but it’s not gonna change our expectations or change our games. We would love to have him, but he had to do what’s best for him.”
One player Arizona will get back is rising sophomore guard Allonzo Trier, now the projected No. 38 pick in 2017 by DraftExpress.com.
Alkins, a Brooklyn native, previously told SNY.tv he’s excited to play with Trier.
“Now teams won’t know what to do with us,” Alkins told SNY.tv in April. “It’s going to be very hard to double-team any one of us on the team, we’ll be a matchup nightmare.”
Meantime, as they build chemistry at the Adidas Nations, both Alkins and Simmons have high hopes for the season.
“Our goal is to get to a Final Four and win a national championship,” said Simmons.
“The Final Four is our goal,” Alkins reiterated.
In Australia, Ferguson said he’s trying to win a title of his own with the 36ers.
“I want to be the best player I can be and I want to win a ring,” Ferguson said, according to adelaidenow.com.
