NEW YORK — Moses Brown, the 7-foot-1, 224-pound Class of 2018 center from Archbishop Molloy and the New Heights AAU program, will continue his breakout summer by playing in the Under Armour Elite 24 Game on Aug. 20 in Brooklyn.
Brown joins several area stars, including the Sports U trio of Naz Reid, Jahvon Quinerly and Louis King, in the prestigious event which will be shown live on ESPNU (7:30 p.m.).
“I feel like I had a great summer, a breakout summer,” Brown told SNY.tv at the recent Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park. “I was injured last year so it was good.”
In July, he added offers from Georgetown, Louisville, Michigan, UCLA, Arizona, USC and SMU to go with previous offers from schools like Maryland, Florida, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Oklahoma State.
Brown said he was honored to get the Louisville offer.
“I always wanted to speak to Rick Pitino on the phone before,” he said. “He thinks that I’m that guy. He thinks they’re going to have a solid program if I’m around. He thinks not just because I’m a 7-footer, I’m a basketball player. He’s not just going to put me in the game to block shots and rebound, I’m just going to be a basketball player and he’s going to work on my game.”
Brown wants to visit the ACC school “real soon.”
As for Georgetown, another recent offer, “The head coach called me, the assistant coach [Kevin Broadus] called me a week before that. It was a good feeling getting a call from Georgetown. They’re a big man school, they deliver a lot of historic big men to the league so that’s a good feeling.”
Brown is in no rush to cut his list since he’s only a junior.
As for his height, Brown says he may still continue to grow.
“Well, I’m getting a little aches and pains in my body so they said probably,” he said.
